Meet Our Ferrets
Ferrets are bred from the European Polecat, this was done around 2000 years ago by the Romans, they did this to have protection for their food storages from rodents such as rats and mice. They are very lazy creatures sleeping around 18 hours a day!
Range
Ferrets are found in many different collections and in the pet trade but originally their ancestors where found in Europe.
Diet
Ferrets are obligate carnivores, which means their diet consists mainly of meat. At our park, we ensure they are fed a balanced diet rich in proteins and fats to keep them healthy and active.
Lifespan
The average lifespan of a ferret is around 6-8 years, but they can live longer with proper care and attention.
Conservation Status
Domestic errets are not considered endangered, but they are popular as pets and can sometimes be found in animal shelters looking for forever homes. At our park, we promote responsible pet ownership and education on ferret conservation. However, the Black-footed Ferret, a wild species, is listed as endangered due to habitat loss, loss of prey and the spread of diseases. Domestic ferrets are therefore important ambassadors for the conservation of their wild counterparts to encourage conservation efforts.
