Meet Our African Spurred Tortoises
African Spurred Tortoise or the Sulcata Tortoise is an African tortoise species, they are the third largest species of tortoise in the world with the other two being the Galapagos and Aldabra Tortoise. They are capable of going a long time without any food or water but at the park they are fed daily with a variety of fruits and vegetables.
Range
The African Spurred Tortoise, also known as the Sulcata Tortoise, is native to the southern edge of the Sahara desert in Africa.
Diet
These tortoises are herbivores, enjoying a diet of grasses, plants, fruits, and vegetables. They require a high-fibre, low-protein diet to thrive.
Lifespan
African Spurred Tortoises have a long lifespan, often living for more than 70 years in captivity when provided with proper care and habitat.
Conservation Status
The African Spurred Tortoise is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss, illegal poaching, and the pet trade.
