Meet our Blue & Gold Macaws

Blue and Gold Macaws gain their name due to their striking colouration, they have a yellow sections running from their face and down their bellies and they have blue covering the majority of their back and tails. These parrots reach sexual maturity at around 3-4 years old and their known to breed seasonally based on the location they reside at the time.

Range

Macaws are native to the rainforests of Central and South America.

Diet

These magnificent birds have a varied diet that includes fruits, nuts, seeds, and vegetables. This is very important to support a healthy diet and allows the birds to thrive.

Lifespan

They can live up to 30 to 40 years in the wild and up to 60 years in captivity, making them long-term companions for those who can provide the correct care for them. Bare in mind that Macaws in general are NOT a good pet, they take a high amount of attention and care to keep happy and healthy and for the majority of people this is not something that can be provided, also take into consideration the space they need.

Conservation status

In the wild Macaws are generally endangered with some species which have already gone extinct in the wild such as the Spix's Macaw. Blue and Gold Macaws are of a least concern but due to rapid increase of habitat loss, illegal pet trade and predation this could change if action isn't taken.
