Meet Our Guinea Pigs
Guinea Pigs share terminology with pigs when it comes to gender, with females called sows and males called boars, despite this they share no ancestors with pigs. They do not come from Guinea either, they got their name from when they would be sold in markets a long time ago, you would be able to buy a pig like creature for a guinea which was the currency back then.
Range
Guinea pigs, originated in the Andes Mountains of South America, where they were domesticated by ancient civilizations like the Incas around 3,000 years ago. Unlike their wild relatives, which are small, skittish rodents, domesticated guinea pigs were bred for their docile nature and used for food. They were introduced to Europe in the 16th century, quickly gaining popularity as pets due to their gentle temperament and easy care.
Diet
Our Guinea Pigs enjoy a diet rich in fresh vegetables, hay, and pellets to ensure they stay healthy and active. You can even participate in feeding sessions to interact with these adorable creatures.
Lifespan
Guinea Pigs have a lifespan of around 5-7 years, making them long-term companions for those who choose to adopt them as pets.
Conservation Status
While Guinea Pigs are not endangered in the wild, responsible pet ownership is crucial to their well-being. We promote awareness about caring for these animals and providing them with a loving environment.
