Meet Our Leopard Tortoises

Leopard Tortoises can be identified by their patterned shell. They are a crepuscular species meaning they are most active early morning and late evenings, during the day it is very hot where they are form so being active during this time uses more energy.

Range

Our leopard tortoises are native to the savannas of eastern and southern Africa. They can be found in countries like Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa.

Diet

Leopard tortoises are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, flowers, and succulents. They have a plant-based diet that is essential for their health and well-being.

Lifespan

These amazing creatures have a long lifespan, often living for 50-100 years in captivity. With proper care and a suitable environment, leopard tortoises can be lifelong companions and are commonly referred to as 'heirloom pets'.

Conservation Status

Leopard tortoises are listed as a vulnerable species due to habitat loss, poaching, and the illegal pet trade. At Greenacres Animal Park, we are committed to raising awareness about their conservation needs.
