In Egypt where they originate it can reach scorching temperatures, at the hottest points in the day these tortoises have been known to use abandoned animal burrows for shelter.
Range
Egyptian tortoises are native to the North African region, particularly in the deserts of Egypt and Libya. They thrive in arid climates and sandy habitats.
Diet
These tortoises are herbivores, primarily feeding on a diet of various plants, fruits, and vegetables. At Greenacres Animal Park, we ensure they receive a balanced and nutritious diet.
Lifespan
Egyptian tortoises have a relatively long lifespan, with some individuals living up to 50 years in captivity. They require proper care and a suitable environment to thrive.

Due to habitat loss and illegal pet trade, Egyptian tortoises are classified as critically endangered. At Greenacres Animal Park, we support conservation efforts to protect these beautiful creatures.
