Meet our Cockatiels
Cockatiels are an Australian bird easily identified by their red spot on their cheeks and crest on their head. They are a very vocal species, communicating with their flocks. They are apart of the Cockatoo family having similarities.

Range
Cockatiels are found in mainland Australia and are common around these areas. They aren't common in Tasmania as they were introduced there accidentally.
Diet
Cockatiels have a diet of grasses, seeds, berries, fruit and vegetables.
Lifespan
In the wild Cockatiels live to be around 10-14 years old depending on their environment and health, but in captivity they can reach up to 30 years old.
conservation status
Cockatiels are of a least concern and have a stable population, the flock we have at Greenacres Animal Park allows people to see and experience them without keeping them as pets.

Did you know?
- Cockatiels can both produce sounds such as whistling but males are better at it then females.
- They are very smart and are capable of learning lots of tricks.
- They have amazing night vision, their pupils allow them to see in the dark due to them enlarging in low light conditions.
