Our Environmental Mission
At Greenacres Animal Park, we are dedicated to preserving and protecting the environment. New for 2025 we are dedicating 5-acres to nature, creating a safe haven for wildlife, featuring multiple wild ponds, wooded areas and bug 'hotels' that provide essential habitats for various species.
We believe in sustainable practices and are committed to promoting biodiversity and conservation efforts. Our goal is to create a harmonious balance between our visitors and the natural world around us.
Our Bee Sanctuary
Nestled in a peaceful woodland area, our sanctuary is home to a diverse range of pollinators, including Honeybees, Red Mason bees, and Leaf Cutter bees. As you explore the sanctuary, you'll journey through this tranquil space, culminating in a beautiful lookout point with stunning views of our wolf enclosure. It's a place where nature thrives, and visitors can connect with the essential role bees play in our ecosystem.
Wildlife Habitats
Around the park we have dedicated space for habitats for a variety of British wildlife species. This includes bug hotels, raised planters and log piles, bat boxes, bird boxes and butterfly houses.
We also have flower beds, areas and enclosures left to nature, hedgerows and wooded areas that are perfect for wildlife to enjoy and forage in.
Battling waste
Feeding so many animals can be expensive and requires a lot of resources, to assist with this, we are lucky to have a relationship with local supermarkets and receive donations of fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste. As expected, this can vary week by week and therefore we also welcome food donations from members of the public for which we have a drop off point in our main car park. We also accept wet and dry animal food.
As well as food, we are also trying to reduce the environmental effects of fast fashion. We have a clothes bank on our main car park which gets collected and weighed in so donated clothes can be recycled and have a second life. An added benefit to our clothes bank, each kilo of clothes weighed in raises money for the park which goes towards taking care of our animals!
Breeding and housing species at risk of extinction
At the park we have several species at risk from extinction and, as part of our mission to contribute towards ex-situ conservation, we have several successful breeding programmes.
According to the IUCN Red List, more than 80% of lemur species are at risk. Here at the park we house Black and White Ruffed Lemurs (which are 1 step away from being extinct in the wild and classed as Critically Endangered) and Ring Tailed Lemurs (which are classed as Endangered). We are proud to say we have a successful breeding history with both species, helping with captive breeding and ensuring an insurance population continues to be housed in captivity.
We also have several ambassador species at the park. Our domestic Bactrian Camels inspire and educate our visitors on their wild counterparts; the Wild Camel, which is Critically Endangered. This is also the same for our Axolotl (Critically Endangered), our Ferrets (related to the Black-footed Ferret, which are Endangered), our Military Macaw (Vulnerable), our African Spurred Tortoises (Vulnerable), and our Egyptian Tortoises (Critically Endangered).
Greenacres Animal Park are also members of the RBST (Rare Breeds Survival Trust) and house several UK native breeds. Including Highland Cattle, Saddleback Pigs, Bagot Goats and Shetland Ponies. Our Highland Cattle and Bagot Goat herds are both part of their respective societies and successfully breed at the park.
In-situ fundraising
As part of our contribution towards in-situ conservation, we strive to fundraise and raise money for animal conservation charities which are working with threatened wild species populations across the world.
New for 2025, we have launched our Adoption packs for visitors to adopt some of our animal species. As part of the packages, a donation will be given directly to our chosen charities.
