Meet Our Chilean Rose Tarantula
The Chilean Rose Tarantula is found in parts of Chile and is a medium sized species, females will have a leg span of 5 inches which is around 12-13 cm whereas males will have 3.5 inches with is about 9cm. These tarantulas have special hairs on their legs which they are able to use in self defence, these hairs irritate their target and help to defend themselves. They also have fangs that can fold away under their bodies and means when they strike, they strike from above to impale their prey.
Range
The Chilean Rose Tarantula, also known as the Rose Hair Tarantula, originates from the deserts of Chile. It is a popular species in the pet trade due to its docile nature and striking appearance.
Diet
These tarantulas are carnivorous and primarily feed on insects such as crickets, mealworms, and cockroaches. They are opportunistic feeders and will eat whatever prey is available to them.
Lifespan
The Chilean Rose Tarantula has a relatively long lifespan for a spider, with females living up to 20 years in captivity with proper care. Males generally live 4-5 years. They molt as they grow, shedding their old exoskeleton to reveal a larger one underneath.
Conservation Status
While not currently considered endangered, habitat destruction and collection for the pet trade can pose threats to wild populations of the Chilean Rose Tarantula. It is important to ensure sustainable practices when keeping them as pets.
